This famous portrait, engraved by Philippe Galle, was included in Ortelius' atlases from 1579 onwards. The title translation is, "By looking, Ortelius gave to mortal beings the world, by looking at his face, Galleus gave them Ortelius." The portrait is surrounded in a strapwork and garland frame. Blank verso.

Image is a fine example with just a little marginal soiling or staining. Fine color and dark impression on thick hand laid paper.
