This is a fine pair of allegorical title pages from Merian's history of Europe in the seventeenth century. The first shows two female figures crowning Ferdinand III, Holy Roman Emperor with a wreath of laurel while Fame blows her trumpets and putti hold the crown and scepter. At the foot of the engraving is a heap of soldiers and weapons representing the carnage of the Thirty Year War (7 x 11.3"). The second frontispiece is filled with symbolic figures representing victory (7.7 x 12.5").

Condition:
First is very good with a dark impression and good margins (A). Second has been trimmed tightly by the binder and there a re a couple tiny pinholes in the image (B+).
