This very scarce first edition cycle touring book contains the original three folding maps at rear, each 10" x 10". Produced by the League of American Wheelmen, the organization intends to "protect the rights of Wheelmen (which are the those of any driver of horse and wagon)…" Text has sections on Topography, Hotels in the area, Abbreviations (e.g. condition "Bad" Generally unridable [sic]), seventy bicycle routes in great detail, also road routes given in tabular form, Index. "Map No. 1" is centered on Washington D.C. and extends to show road network to Falls Church, Alexandria, Glendale, and Takoma Park. The second map shows a wider perspective out to Rockville, Occoquan, Brandywine and Bowie. "Map No. 3" is centered on Leesburg and includes parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay. Each map was prepared by Howell & Taylor, Civil Engineers. A few pages loose, covers split at spine but still attached. The maps are fairly clean and bright with no tears or splits (B+).
