This fine engraving shows the fabulous royal palace that was built by King Phillip II to commemorate the 1557 Spanish victory at the Battle of St. Quentin. It was designed by the Spanish architect Juan Bautista de Toledo and was constructed from a plan based on the descriptions of Solomon's temple.
