This is a very rare, copper engraved map of Italy. It was published in Jean-Jacques Boissard's six-volume description of Roman antiquities (1597-1602). The map is finely engraved with a stippled sea filled with ships and a fierce sea monster, and graced with a garland draped title cartouche. The map is densely packed with place names and extends to show Corsica, most of Sardinia and just a bit of Sicily. There is no record of this map having been on the market in the past 25 years.
