This very uncommon, small bird's-eye plan of Venice is based on the famous plan by Braun & Hogenberg, which was in turn based on the 1565 work of Bolognino Zaltieri. The plan clearly depicts the Grand Canal and the city's architectural landmarks. The surrounding lagoon is filled with sailing and fishing vessels representing the city's importance as an maritime power and the fulcrum for trade between Europe and the Middle East. Latin text on verso.
