This unusual thematic chart shows the traveling distances from various European cities in a style that is still used today. The sheet is richly embellished with a large title cartouche (with the German title, Curioser Stadt-Zeiger…) surrounded by allegorical figures and putti with a globe displaying the Eastern Hemisphere. The map was engraved by Johann Baptist Homann with his imprint in the cartouche. David Funcke employed the young Homann as an engraver prior to the establishment of the Homann publishing empire. His maps are rarely offered on the market; this one not appearing in any price records.
