Three lovely chromolithographed plates from Studer's important ornithological work. The plates are without title, the titles used are from research on the web. The owl goes by many names including rain owl, wood owl, and striped owl, but is best known as the hoot owl. The Passenger Pigeon plate shows a lovely grouping of six. The bird became extinct in 1914. The sea birds plate is dominated by a large swan surrounded by gulls, a killdeer and other water birds.
