1) by Thomas Suarez, Singapore, 1992. The maps, atlases, portolan charts, and globes chosen for this scholarly volume were selected to reveal the European discovery of the world, the history of the world lifting its veil to explorers and mapmakers. Works from the Sidney R. Knafel Collection 1434 - 1865. 203 pages, illustrated with 25 color plates. Hardbound in simulated leather with gilt lettering, protected dust jacket (A+). (8.8 x 11.8")

2) W.P. Cumming, R.A. Skelton, D.B. Quinn, New York, First American edition, 1972. This extensive textual history, profusely illustrated, covers early explorations across the Atlantic to 1633. It is an important reference for any library. 304 pp. with 370 plates, 75 in color. Hardbound in black cloth with gilt titles. 4to. (9.5 x 12.2") No dust jacket, contents very good (A).

3) by Albert Bettex, London, 1960. 269 plates in photogravure, 36 plates in color. An extensive history of the world categorized by region. Includes chapters on Ptolemy, Alexander the Great, Marco Polo, the Portuguese, the Jesuits, Cortez, Sir Walter Raleigh, von Humboldt, Magellan, Cook, La Perouse, as well as seven chapters devoted to the explorations of the Polar Regions. Contents very good but edges soiled, first signature slightly shifted, dust jacket bumped on edges with a few small tears (B+). (9.5 x 12.3")
