This is a very scarce engraving of the Battle of Auneau during the French Wars of Religion fought between French Catholics and Protestants (Huguenots). This scene illustrates an important victory for Henri I, Duke of Guise in November of 1587. The view is a very graphic illustration of the battle with cavalry, infantry and scenes of hand-to-hand combat. In the foreground, the Duke of Guise is pictured. Latin text on verso.
