This spectacular engraving is from one of the finest 19th century atlases. The engraving skill is evident with nearly three dimensional rendering of topography and unbelievably fine stippling in The Great Desert. The map details the region with hundreds of place names in the interior and along the coastlines. This is from the scarce American edition of Pinkerton’s Modern Atlas, published by Dobson & Co. of Philadelphia in 1818. Blank verso.
