Uncommon bird's-eye view of the Dutch fort and trading post at Palembang in Sumatra. Nieuhoff accompanied a delegation of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to the Emperor of China between 1655 to 1658. After his return he published his journals and provided the European public with one of the first richly illustrated books describing the exotic Orient.
