This original leaf is from a rare book containing the office of the Catholic Mass printed in Venice. This book was published during the period of transition from manuscript to printing and incorporates the illuminated manuscript tradition with woodcut illustrations within the large initials; in this instance there is a very large (11-line) illustration with the decoration extending into the margin. The text is printed in red and black ink and the woodcuts are colored by hand.
