This lot features two finely engraved and detailed maps of the US. The first is by W & R Chambers, Edinburgh, 1846, 10.2 x 8.2". It features the Independent Republic of Texas with its classic stovepipe configuration. The west has a large Western Territory and the Mississippi River separates a large Iowa Territory from Wisconsin Territory, a most uncommon configuration. Very finely engraved with original hand coloring and full margins (A).
The second map by J. Drayton was engraved by J. Yeager. Published in 1838, (10.5 x 9.2") It displays an interesting territorial configuration west of the Mississippi River. A portion of the Independent Republic of Texas is shown, but above it is the large Indian Territory which is topped by Missouri Territory. To its east is again the Iowa Territory with Wisconsin Territory further east. Original outline hand color. With toning and creasing along centerfold and some offsetting (B).
