Title page to Part III of the French edition of Linschoten's Itinerario published in Amsterdam by Cloppenburg. The sheet shows an Indian and African maiden paying tribute the to personification of Asia at top. A dramatic scene of a large army led by a mahout and his huge elephant fills a cartouche below the title. Linschoten's work is one of the most important early accounts of India, the East Indies, and the Portuguese colonies in Africa and South America.
