This lot contains Civil War related maps and view, each on a full sheet measuring 10.6" x 16". . The first (9.3" x 11") is a battle plan by John Dower from the July 11, 1863 issue of the Illustrated London News. It details troop positions and movements including McPherson's Head Quarters, Smith's Division, Lindsey's Brigade and McClelland's Head Quarters, where the Federals crossed the River and more. Locates Haines Bluff, Chickasaw Bluff, the Walnut Hills, etc. Legend further describes Federal Earthworks, Trenches & Batteries; Confederate Fortifications, Batteries and forces; Rail Roads; and Roads. With an inset map "Map of Port Hudson & Baton-Rouge." The full sheet also contains over 45 column inches of text on the war including General War News, The Last Assault on Port Hudson, and the Siege of Vicksburg.
The second (13.5" x 9.5") is an aerial view from the August 2, 1862 issue. This wide bird's-eye view is for a very high perspective with Richmond at left, Norfolk and Hampton Roads on the right and the Chesapeake Bay occupying most of the upper portion. Locates McClellan's position just north of the Gun Boats on the James River at City Pointe. Most of Washington DC is visible at upper left. Locates Williamsburg, Yorktown, Bowling Green, Fredericksburg and Alexandria.
The last page includes three maps taking up most of page 156 in the August 8, 1863 issue, which together measure 9.5" x 11.3". On the verso is part of "General Lee's Campaign in Pennsylvania" taking up several column inches.
