This great tourist pocket map is drawn in the whimsical cartoon-style that was a popular culture art form in the first half of the 20th century. Scattered throughout the map are figures with captions, such as A Highwayman 18th Century; A Spanish Galleon; Defeat of Richard III Bosworth - 1485; Highlanders 1745 Rebellion; and many more. The map is also filled with famous quotes from literary works, each contained in small scrolls, such as "This is the deadly spite that angers me, My wife can speak no English, I no Welsh - Mortimer in Henry the Fourth." A decorative title cartouche and legend locates Cathedrals, Abbey's Castles, Sea Ports, Holiday Centres & Spas, Principal Battles (ancient as well as air battles of WWII), Main Trunk Roads, and more. The whole is enclosed in a colorful border made up of hundreds of coats of arms. Folded and linen backed with paper labels with the same title cartouche. The back cover advertises "The Children's Map of London."
