This early map of Comtat Venaissin was prepared by Stefano Ghebellini for Ortelius in 1574. It focuses on the Rhone River valley and Avignon, which were at the time a Papal enclave. The Comtat is one of the richest wine regions in France and several important Chateaus are located on the map including Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This map was separated from the folio sheet on which it was published with two other maps of France.

Good impression and lovely old color. Neatly remargined at left to accommodate framing. There is a short tear in the bottom margin, well away from the map.
