This is one of the earliest and most beautiful maps of Portugal. It is oriented with north to the right and richly adorned with two large cartouches, sailing ships and a very devilish-looking sea monster. The map is based on Fernando Alvarez Secco's map of 1560. This is from the second revised plate from a Latin edition.
References: Van den Broecke #27.
Condition: B
Original color with some toning along centerfold and narrow but adequate side margins. The centerfold is separated in the top margin and into the bottom border. There is a very old paper repair on the two small tears parallel to the fold just above the center.
