This is a handsome map of ancient Greece and the Peloponnese, including the islands in the Aegean, the Bosphorus and western Turkey. The title includes Ellas in Greek above the English title. A sailing ship, galley and sea monsters add to the strapwork cartouche and bold border to embellish the map. This is the Bassett and Chiswell edition with English text on verso. Hinge tape remnants on verso and light creases adjacent to centerfold (A).
2) An Accurate Map of Turkey in Europe from the best Authorities, John Gibson, [1771], London, 10.7 x 10.2". Good detail throughout the Balkans to include Greece and Crete. Names Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia. Compass rose and decorative title cartouche. Fine condition (A+).
