This lot contains some of the better fashion costumes we've seen. These copper engravings are variously dated 1837 to 1841. Each plate is unique and shows two different women with the name of the fashion designer below. Some of the designers are Cartier, Lejay, Delisle, Gaud, Mariton, and Brunel. Each plate has "Le Bon Ton" at the top which literally translates to the Upper Ten Thousand and was used in the 19th Century to suggest the so-called Polite Society. This French publication was apparently published by Edward Bull Librarie in London. A most uncommon set of fashion plates.
