This large and highly detailed pocket map was "Drawn, Engraved and Published by G.W. & C.B. Colton" in 1869. It folds into original brown boards (3.8 x 5.8") with embossing and gilt title. The beautifully and precisely engraved map presents a huge amount of information. It is surrounded by a decorative and boldly engraved border in a design uncommon for the Colton firm. Includes large inset: "Plan of Cook County & Vicinity of Chicago." The extensive legend locates Organized Townships, county towns, villages, railroads both completed and in progress and canals. Blank verso. Inside yellow paper label lists other maps and atlases available from the firm.

Beautiful, dark impression and color. A couple very small fold intersection splits, a few spots and some light stains where pasted into cover. Covers and paper label are very nice.
