1. This Civil War-period example of Mitchell's school atlas contains 32 maps (many with blank versos) along with tables and statistics. It contains very nice maps of the United States, Texas, and the West. Hardbound with pictorial paper over boards. Published by E.H. Butler & Co. All of the maps are very good (A). The covers are rough with bumping, abrasion and some small spots. The spine is perished and the covers held by a thread.
2. This "New" example of Mitchell's famous school atlas contains 44 "copperplate" maps (most with blank versos) including the new maps "Dakota, Montana & Wyoming" and "Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico & Indian Territory." With numerous tables and statistics. Also has the nice maps of the U.S., Texas, and the West. Many maps are double page. Hardbound with pictorial paper over boards featuring children on a hillside overlooking a small sea village with erupting volcano. Published by J.H. Butler & Co. Maps are generally fine. The front cover has a little staining along right edge, the back cover has darkened. A nice example of this atlas.
