This rare, decorative map of the Guyanas provides an updated view of Hessel Gerritsz' map of the region. The large Parime Lacus still sits astride the equator with Manoa o el Dorado (the golden city) on its western shore. But the rivers of the interior are more developed and there are considerably more place and Indian tribe names. The pictorial title cartouche features a farming scene with Amazon natives and the mythical god Neptune. We can find no record of this map being on the market in the past 25 years.
