This great set of plates include the portraits of the important Native Americans Quanah Parker. Chief of the Quah-hah-das Comanches - Oklahoma, 1890; Sitting Bull. Sioux - South Dakota, September 1890; Tonto Apache. White Mountain Reservation, Arizona, 1891; Chief Captain Dave (Nu-Man-Nar). Piute - Nevada Agency, Nevada, 1891; and Pasqual (Paschal). Chief of the Yumas - California, 1890. The remaining plates are: Issue Day. Indians Running Beef Before Killing - Kowa, Comanche, and Wichita Agency, Oklahoma, 1890; Sioux Camp. Standing Rock Agency, North Dakota, September 1890; Hunting Party of Shoshones. Shoshone Agency, Wyoming, August 1890; and The Race. Crow Indians - Crow Reservation, Montana, August, 1890 (triple fold - 18" x 7"). Artists include Gilbert Gaul, Julian Scott, Peter Moran and Walter Shirlaw with attribution on each plate. Each is a beautifully printed color collotype, a difficult printing process than involved the use of gelatin, on a full sheet measuring 9" x 11.5" (20.5" x 9" for the last plate).
