This bird's-eye plan of Brussels was drawn to illustrate the devastating destruction caused by the French bombardment in 1695. The attack destroyed the Grand Place, along with about a third of the buildings in the city. The important buildings and churches are identified in the key at upper right with several numbers indicating blank areas in the plan. Accompanying the plan is a text (French) sheet with a description of the city.
