This is an unusual, decorative pair of reproduction celestial charts, from Andreas Cellarius' Harmonia Macrocosmica. They are printed onto linen, mounted on stretcher bars, and will fill a very large space - perfect for an office or restaurant! Andreas Cellarius is best known for his spectacular celestial atlas, the Harmonia Macrocosmica. His atlas contained a description of ancient and contemporary astronomy including the theories of Ptolemy, Copernicus, and Tycho Brahe. The atlas was illustrated with twenty-nine engraved plates that are among the most beautiful celestial charts ever made. As Nick Kanas remarks in his account of the Harmonia Macrocosmica, "Rarely have the art and science of celestial images been more beautifully depicted, which has accounted for the great popularity of these plates today in interior decorator offices and corporate boardrooms." These large charts are a testament to that popularity. Please email for a shipping quotation prior to bidding.
