This rare miniature geography book focuses on Spain and Portugal with 21 (of 22) maps and plans. The maps include: Europa, Biscaia, Narvarra, Aragonia & Catalonia, Galaecia, Legio, Castilia, Madrid, Valentia, Granada & Murcia, Andaluzia, Gades, Estremadura, Portugallia, and Majorca. These were originally engraved by Jodocus Hondius and Pieter van den Keere for Bertius' Tabularum geographicarum... The large multi-folding plans show in amazing detail the cities of Barcelona, Burgos, Toledo, Granada, Sevilla, and Lisboa. They were all reduced from the plans of Braun & Hogenberg. Hardbound in brown leather with gilt title and embossed bands on spine. 8vo, T.E.G., 350 pp, title page, list of plates, text, maps and plans. Merula, a Dutch jurist, was appointed to the chair of history at the University of Leyden in 1592. In addition to this geography he also published folio editions, wrote many treatises on laws and history and is also known for his geological studies. This edition was published by Willem Blaeu from Amsterdam.

The map of Hispania listed in the index appears to have not been bound into the book. The map of Majorca is bound upside down. Text and plates very good with minimal toning. The plan of Burgos has a small piece of the upper corner missing. Binding is rubbed on corners, else very good.
