1) Abissinorum Regnu, by Mercator/Hondius, from Atlas Minor, circa 1620 (7 x 5.4"). Charming little map with a fair amount of detail along the Horn of Africa, reflecting Colonial trading interests. The Ptolemaic sources for the Nile are shown in the twin lakes of Zaire and Zaflan below the Equator. The map is decorated with a strapwork title and scale cartouche incorporated together. German text on verso.
2) Empire des Abyssins, by Alain Manesson Mallet, from Description de l'Univers, circa 1683 (4 x 5.8"). Charming little map showing the source of the Blue Nile and nearly all of the Horn of Africa. Decorated with a simple drape style cartouche. French text on verso.
