Matched pair of portraits depicting a man and woman of the Easter Island in traditional costume. The woman has a woven hat and a necklace featuring a large shell. The man has a fishing net on a pole, feathered headdress, loin cloth from leaves and wears a beard. These are Italian language plates drawn from the explorations of Capt. Cook. They were engraved by Theodorum Viero and published by Antonio Zatta. The plates are titled in both French and Italian with French given above. The Italian titles are "Uomo [and Donna] dell' Isola de Pasqua, o Terra di Davis nel Mar del Sud."

Both images are very good, but both have a little scattered soiling or foxing in blank margins. Both with fine color on full sheets of hand laid paper with wide margins. The impression is very early and fine with the ink standing proud on paper.
