These lovely lithographed plates were drawn and hand-colored by John William Hill. These were the first hand-colored lithographs used to illustrate a state bird book and only 200 editions were colored by Hill. Like John James Audubon's bird portraits, Hill's were painted with an objective eye, documenting accurate anatomy and colors, and capturing the animal's natural countenance.
