This lot contains nine fine chromolithographed plates including birds of prey and owls. Also the important Golden Eagle plate from this important ornithological work.
A. Plate XXX. This shows two large eagles, one with a mouse in its claws. (A)
B. Plate I "Golden Eagle." Very bold and striking image of this important bird. Shown just delivering a large fish to its two small eaglet high above the coast with fishing vessels in the background. Overall foxing. (B)
C. Plate LIX. Another majestic eagle perched on the edge of a cliff. (A)
D. Plate LVIII "Sharp-shined Hawk- Pigeon Hawk, Broadwinged Hawk, Black Duck, Hudsonian Godwit". Very nice example. (A)
E. Plate XVI. Two eagles with a large fish in ones talons. Some soiling along right edge of margin. (A)
F. Plate CXVII. A number of birds on one plate including owls, hawks, wood peckers and a kingfisher. (A+)
G. Plate CXIII. This exceptional print shows eight different owls in great detail. Includes the two different horned owls and the great snowy owl. (A+)
