It is still an indispensable reference with good maps, including reproductions of early maps, statistical data, and descriptive text providing comprehensive information on the nation's development. Part I contains the text and index in 162 pages; Part II contains 688 maps in 166 plates. Published jointly by Carnegie Institution of Washington and the American Geographical Society of New York.
