A lieutenant-colonel of the French Army Intelligence Corps, Frezier was dispatched to South America to correct existing charts and study the defense fortifications of Chile, Peru and Brazil. Frezier is best known for bringing several specimens of strawberries back from South America and introducing them to Europe. This little map depicts his sea voyage from St. Malo, France to South America and back to Europe.

A binding tear that enters map image 1/2" at left has been professionally repaired, and bottom left blank margin has been remargined to replace the binding trim.
