This scarce and unusual thematic map illustrates the geographic distribution of the human races throughout the world. It is drawn on Mercator's Projection with well-rendered vignettes of the various races at top and sides. Beneath the map are related graphs and a smaller world map showing population density in relation to agricultural zones. Berghaus' Physikalischer Atlas was a monumental work in the history of thematic cartography. It is considered the first comprehensive physical atlas of the world.
