This detailed map of the Ottoman Empire is a fine example of the stark style that came into vogue at the beginning of the eighteenth century. The title is simply engraved at top flanked by a key on the left and distance scales on the right. The map shows the extent of the empire from the Balkan peninsula through the Caspian Sea and from northern Africa through the Arabian Peninsula. An inset continues to include the kingdoms of Tangiers and Algeria.
