A. World Map of Francesco Roselli. Drawn on an oval projection and printed from a woodcut .... Described by George E. Nunn from the copy in the collection of George H. Beans. by Dr. George E. Nunn (privately printed), 1928, (9 x 12"). This is a monograph dealing with the Roselli world map printed in 1532. Illustrated with reproductions of early maps, including the frontispiece and four inserted plates. Copy 118 out of 500. 30 pp. and 5 maps. B. The Leardo Map of the World 1452 or 1453. by John Kirkland Wright, 1928, (7.5 x 5"). In 1906 Archer M. Huntington, Esq., presented to the American Geographical Society one of three known maps of the world signed and dated by the Venetian, Giovanni Leardo. The Society's map, the largest of the three, bears the signature in the lower right-hand corner: Johanes Leardus de Venetteis me fezit abano domini 145[?]. The Society's map is of primary interest as revealing a conception of the earth's surface typical of the century preceding the discovery of America. In its blending of colors and pleasing general composition it forms a work of art of no slight decorate value. 74 pp. and 10 illustrations. Hardbound in gray cloth boards with gilt titles on black panels. Loose page of additions and corrections. Condition: Contents are tight and clean and covers show a little wear and soiling. (A)
