These six volumes comprise the complete set of The History of Cartography series published to date, which is considered an essential work referencing the history of cartographic refinement and is a terrific source of expert knowledge. The series is organized by region and time period, and takes into consideration the context of the societies that made and used the maps discussed. Each one is extensively illustrated with color and black and white reproductions that show examples of each discussion in tremendous detail. Edited by J.B. Harley and David Woodward. All volumes are 8vo, hardbound in gray cloth with gilt titles on the spine printed within a field of red, blue or green, depending on the volume, with illustrated dust jackets.

A. Volume One: Cartography in Prehistoric, Ancient, and Medieval Europe and the Mediterranean, by J.B. Harley and David Woodward, published 1987, with 600 pages, 40 color plates, and 240 black-and-white illustrations.
