This is an interesting account of the history of Westchester and the broader New York area - from the Indians, to the Dutch, and finally to the English taking over in 1664. With English rule, the Duke of York (who renamed New Netherland to New York) established manors in Westchester County including Cortlandt, Scarsdale, Pelham, Morrisania, Fordham and Philipseburgh. The later text discusses the land rights, legal structure, geneology, and life on the manor until they were ultimately broken up. Included within the text are four maps of Westchestire County, Scarsdale, Philipseburgh and Corlandt, two of which are in color. 160 pp. Written by Edward Floyd de Lancey.
