These two sheets were taken from separate editions of The Illustrated London News in 1865.

The first is a full-page newspaper map showing Wilmington near the top and Cape Fear at the bottom. At the time, forts along the Cape Fear River leading to Wilmington were under siege by Rear Admiral David D. Porter. According to the reporter of this article, Union forces were then at Half Moon Battery on the peninsula about 15 miles below Wilmington. Included with the map is a full-page engraving of the battle of Fort Fisher, located at the tip of the peninsula on which Wilmington is situated. Text on verso.
