This scarce, 2 sheet map of California was produced by the General Land Office under the Commissioner, Hon. Thomas H. Carter. The map locates the Surveyor General's Office, Land Offices and private land grants along with many other details. 18 Indian Reservations are shown with red shading. At lower left is a numbered index showing the 553 private land grants in the state. When the sheets are put together, the map measures 39 x 49". Lithographed by Julius Bien & Co.
