This scarce map of southern New York extends from Albany to New York City, with parts of New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. It illustrates the theater of the American Revolutionary War following Britain’s capture of Philadelphia and move to consolidate its positions in New York. There is incredible detail of towns, harbors, roads, forts, manors, ferries, and rivers. The Highlands and the stretch of the Hudson River that became a pivotal axis of the conflict are prominently delineated. The map is adorned with a decorative title cartouche and a simple compass rose.
