Handsome map of the Leeward and Windward Islands between Puerto Rico and South America. North is oriented to the left as indicated by the compass roses. All of the major islands are named, as are several very tiny ones. The ornate title cartouche includes sea god Nereus and two of his daughters. The map is further embellished with a native Carib holding the scale of miles, a sea monster and several sailing ships. French text on verso.

Original color with light toning and faint spots. Centerfold separations have been closed on verso with archival materials. Numerous small cracks in bottom blank margin, two of which enter 1" into map image, have been closed on verso with tissue and old paper. There is also one small unrepaired tear that enters 1/2" into map image at bottom.
