This is Samuel Scott's map of the Black Hills region, showing detailed topography including railroads, rivers and county boundaries and locates towns including Deadwood, Sturgis, Custer City and Rapid City. At upper right is an inset of the area surrounding Deadwood. The accompanying 40 pp. pamphlet entitled Rocks, Minerals, and Other Resources of the Golden Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming is "the first book on descriptive mineralogy of the Black Hills." The map folds into its original red printed paper covers.
