This map of Curacao details the settlements, roads and topography of the island. An inset shows Fort Amsterdam at the mouth of Scottegat inlet, with depictions of the battery, gallows, and fortifications. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Curacao changed hands among the British, the French, and the Dutch several times. The island returned to Dutch rule in 1815, and is currently a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
