This impressive and highly detailed map of Tokyo displays roads, docks and waterways. It is surrounded by 33 scenes of important buildings and places around the Imperial city. Includes an inset and numerous tables. Japanese maps from the Meiji period incorporate western cartographic elements, such as the large compass rose, into the traditional Japanese cartographic style. The map was produced for the Japanese market with names and descriptions in Japanese characters.
