This beautiful lithograph of black swifts is from Daniel Elliot's The New and Heretofore Unfigured Species of the Birds of North America. The black swift is the largest swift in the U.S. and Canada. Lithographed, printed and colored by Bowen & Co. Elliot's work has the distinction of being the last great hand-colored book produced in America. Very few sets were published and the plates are quite rare. The full sheet measures 14.3 x 20.5".
