This lot includes 3 portraits of British explorer Captain James Cook and one of John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, who was a great supporter of Captain Cook's expeditions. To honor his support, Cook named the Sandwich islands (Hawaii) after him.

B. Capt. James Cook, F. R. S. From A Painting by Mr. Dance in the Possession of Joseph Banks Esq., by John Bew, published 1780 (3.5 x 6.5"). Condition: Minor soiling along the left edge of the sheet. (A)
