This view depicts Fort Niagara, New York, a year before the British would successfully take over the position from the French during the French and Indian War. This was a key victory for the British as the fort was a critical supply line between the province of Canada and Ohio Country. William Johnson was an army officer in colonial New York, and led the expedition's Iroquois forces. Issued in the September 1759 edition of the Royal Magazine. Accompanied by the complete, disbound issue of the magazine, including an article describing the British taking the fort, an explanatory key, and 2 other single-page engravings (one in color).
