Siena and the surrounding region of Tuscany are the focus of this rare and handsome map. Siena, Florence, Pisa, Arezzo, Cortona, Orvieto and Viterbo are all depicted with miniature castles. The map extends to include the peninsulas of Orbetello and Piombino along the coast, as well as the nearby island of Giglio. At bottom left is a cartouche containing historical information on Siena, which is nicely balanced with a decorative strapwork cartouche dedicating the map to Pandolfo Savini, a "gentleman of Siena." Fiamengo Aroldo di Arnoldi was a Flemish cartographer who worked for a while in Bologna for noted Italian cartographer Magini. This map was published by Matteo Florimi, who is best known for his works in "Lafreri" atlases.
